Trina Solar Limited is a manufacturer of mono and multicrystalline photovoltaic modules, which was founded in 1997 as a system installation company. Trina Solar was established in 1997 by Jifan Gao with a small group of scientists as a system integrator in China. In 2006, Trina Solar started receiving investments from a number of international investors.
Trina Solar is a public company which got listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2006 with a subsequent capital infusion in 2007. The company clocked revenue of USD 1.85 bn in 2010 with a profit of USD 311 mn. It employed more than 12,800 employees in FY2010. The company’s revenue in the first quarter of 2011 was USD 550.9 million.

Trina Solar produces solar Photo voltaic modules suited for any kind of application- residential, commercial,
industrial and utility. Trina Solar’s modules come in two series: MONO and MULTI crystalline cells that are 5’’ and 6’’ which combine to form modules that contain 48, 60 and 72 cells.

Business Model: Trina Solar developed a vertically integrated business model. The company claims that this model helped them to ensure optimal power outputs from all of their panels. The company has taken up the production of mono and multi crystalline cells from the silicon ingots and eventually producing the PV systems. The company has also filed for a patent portfolio of 950 with 150 of them already issued.
Strategic Partners/Alliances: Trina Solar currently sells module in over 20 countries, and in each of those countries they had formed key long-term partnerships with local utilities, solar distributors, PV developers and system integrators. - 4 August, 2011 : Trina Solar announced that its subsidiary, Changzhou Trina Solar Energy Co. Ltd, had signed supply agreements with Huanghe Hydropower Development Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China Power Investment Corporation, for two ground-mounted solar projects in China for a total of 30 MW PV modules.
- 30 June, 2011 : Trina Solar announced that through its subsidiary, Trina Solar (Spain) S.L.U., it had signed a sales agreement with Gestamp Asetym Solar, S.L., a Spanish-based developer of large-scale solar energy projects, to power Renault's manufacturing plants in France.
